One of the biggest reasons many indie authors struggle with book visibility online has nothing to do with writing quality.
It’s audience targeting.
A lot of book promotion today happens in very broad spaces where content moves quickly and visibility depends heavily on short-term engagement.
The problem is that not everyone seeing a post is actually looking for books.
Which means many authors end up promoting to:
casual scrollers
inactive audiences
entertainment-focused feeds
people outside their target genre
This creates a frustrating cycle where authors:
post consistently
spend time creating content
gain impressions
but still struggle to reach actual readers
The issue usually isn’t effort.
It’s placement.
Modern book discovery works best when books are positioned in front of people already interested in:
reading
genre recommendations
discovering new books
saving books for later
actively searching for titles
That’s why audience alignment matters so much in book marketing.
Because visibility without the right readers often leads to:
low engagement quality
weak conversions
inconsistent discovery
temporary exposure
This is also why I created the SBV “Promote My Book” spotlight system.
Instead of relying entirely on random feed exposure, selected indie authors can place their books in front of my active 10K+ readers audience on my Pinterest books recommendations platform.
The goal is simple:
Help books reach people already interested in discovering books.
Current spotlight options include:
5 Promo Recs
10 Promo Recs
15 Promo Recs
Best suited for authors with:
published books
strong presentation
5+ Amazon reviews
